In his account of the mythology of birds, Brown uses literary and historical sources to create a delightful exploration of folklore, legends and old beliefs about birds, from the eagle to the woodpecker. Illustrated with a frontispiece and many full-page wood engravings by John Farleigh (1900-1965), notable for his illustrations for George Bernard Shaw's The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God and for the posters he designed for London Transport. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in bright condition, with minimal wear to the joints and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, except for some offsetting to the end papers. Dust wrapper is somewhat soiled and chipped with a couple of closed tears to the extremities and the joints.
