The first edition of this work, a very scarce volume rarely seen on the market and held in only five institutional libraries, including the British Library, the University of Glasgow Libraries and at the Linnean Society of London among others. A practical handbook of botany concerned with generic characteristics of British plants and an introduction to the Linnean System, written by William Johns. Featuring plates I-V, and XVI. With half title and a singular leaf of publisher's advertisements to verso additions and corrections leaf. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over paper covered boards. Externally a trifle rubbed with shelf wear, considerable loss to head and tail of spine, bumped to extremities, boards soiled and marked. Front free endpaper excised. Previous owner's gift inscription to half title, dated 1826. Internally, binding generally firm. Faint tide mark to front pastedown and rear few leaves. Light spotting to fore edge affecting odd leaf only. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
