'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' was the title that Edward Fitzgerald gave to his 1859 translation of the Persian quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam. Fitzgerald's was the first English translation. However, Fitzgerald's translations are fairly loose, he referred to his work on them as 'transmogrification&apos. Some consider that his translation of 'Rubaiyat' could be considered as Fitzgerald's own original poetry that are simply loosely based on Khayyam's quatrains. An extremely bright and highly decorative copy of this work. In a bumpus binding, with exceptional gilt detail to the boards and spine. Externally in excellent condition.
