An impressively extensive topographical study of England and Wales, a brilliant exploration of the countries looking at them both historically and statistically. In these four volumes Dugdale provides a fascinating look at the countries in the Georgian era. Not only looking at the the history of the countries, Dugdale looks into the improvement and contemporary state of the arts and sciences during the interesting era of the Romantics and the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. Arranged by county, this work is often seen split up and bound in the different counties to be sold separately, so it is unique to see all the counties bound in four volumes like this. Interspersed in the text with biographical details of many eminent and remarkable historical figures. In a full marbled calf binding. Externally, smart. Only a little light rubbing to the boards and spines, a little heavier to the joints. Minor bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spines. Small crack to the head of the front joint of Volume III. Front hinge of Volumes I, III, and IV are starting but firm. Evidence of a bookplate being formerly adhered to the front paste down of Volume I. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpapers. Front free endpaper and front blank in Volume II are adhered. Small loss of paper to the front board of Volume IV. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with some spots. The first folding map in Volume I is very torn with loss. Small chip to the margin of the plate facing page 79 in Volume I. Tide mark to the plate facing page 161 in Volume I. Edge wear to the first few pages of Volume I. Tidemark to the frontispiece and engraved title page of Volume III. Page 41/42 of Volume II is worn with tears and loss, with an amaeteur repair. Plate facing page 301 of Volume III is torn with no loss. Large closed tear to the plate facing page 345 in Volume IV. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
