A first edition two volume set of this work in the publisher's original cloth bindings. 5 plates to Volume I, including the frontispiece. 5 plates to Volume II, including the frontispiece. Collated complete. General William Dyott (1761-1847) was a British Army officer and courtier. Dyott fought against Fédon's rebellion on Grenada during the French Revolutionary Wars, and served in the Egypt campaign in 1801, seeing action at the Siege of Alexandria. He also served George III as an aide de camp. In retirement Dyott served as a deputy lieutenant and justice of the peace for Staffordshire and was active in politics as a Tory. In this work are Dyott's diaries that he kept between 1781 and 1845, from when he joined the British Army until two years before his death. In publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally smart, with some wear to the head and tail and joints of the spines and a little bumping to the extremities. Spine is somewhat faded. Hinges are splitting but are still firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for some offsetting to the end papers. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
