Richard Westacott was a notable British sculptor, best known for the reliefs of the north-side of the Marble Arch in London and for the pedimental sculptures on the British Museum. An interesting historical work regarding 'The Man in the Iron Mask', who was an unidentified state prisoner held during the reign of Louis XIV, and the subject of much mystery and debate. Written by George Agar-Ellis, the 1st Baron Dover, who was a British politician and man of letters. In the original cloth binding. Externally, sound with shelf wear to the edges. Spine is cracked, with loss to the upper and lower parts. Marks to the boards. Hinges loosening but still firm. A few light marks to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, binding weak.
