The first of the three charming tales present here is the 1845 James Burns edition of Adelbert Chamisso's 'The Shadowless Man', in a scarce early English language translation of the original German. Featuring a small number of vignette illustrations, and a frontispiece.The second tale present, bound without a title page, is Charles Nodier's scarce children's tale 'Bean Flower and Pea Blossom', published by Chapman and Hall in 1846.This delightful work of fantasy is illustrated with a chromolithograph plate, and numerous vignette illustrations from engraver Tony Johannot, and features nine pages of publisher's advertisements for 'The Boy's Own Book&apos.The final work is an 1845 James Burns edition of 'Fables and Parables' featuring English translations of German stories by Lessing, Herder, Gellert and Meissner, and with a small number of vignette illustrations.With a contemporary inscription to the head of the title page of 'Fables and Parables', dated 1845. In a full cloth binding. Bumping to spine tail with the odd light mark to boards, otherwise externally excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd light spot.
