Title: A History of the Parish of Penn in the County of Buckingham by J. Gilbert Jenkins, M.A. With Linocut Illustrations by Elizabeth Tuke Jenkins
Description: London, The Saint Catherine Press, 1935. Cloth. Jenkins's illustrated history of Penn, a picturesque village in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. 14 plates including the frontispiece, most of which are linocut illustrations by Elizabeth Tuke Jenkins. Whilst the Parish of Penn was settled relatively late and not included within the Domesday Book, the small village has a lively history, as detailed within this text. Jenkins provides a comprehensive and fascinating overview of the area detailing its history from the present day all the way back to the medieval period, a legacy that can clearly be seen in the charming cottages and houses throughout the village. With a map of Penn that has been bound in to the rear. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in lovely condition, with just some small remnants of the dust wrapper which had at some point adhered itself to the lower part of the joints. Dust wrapper is sunned to the spine and extremities, with some chipping to the upper extremities and head and tail of the spine. There is also a stain and a vertical closed tear to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages and the odd spot to the fore edge which affects the occasional page. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Elizabeth Tuke Jenkins. Very Good Indeed/Good Only.
