A collection of the poetry and works of Thomas Hood, noted early nineteenth-century English poet and humourist, who regularly wrote for The London Magazine, Athenaeum, and Punch. Hood's most well-known works include Hood's Own, or, Laughter from Year to Year (first and second series), Whims and Oddities, Tylney Hall, and poems 'The Bridge of Sighs' and 'The Song of the Shirt&apos. This set is complete in ten volumes. Volume I contains an illustrated frontispiece, and all volumes are replete with numerous in-text illustrations.Edited with notes by his son, Tom Hood, and his daughter, Frances Freeling Broderip.Containing the bookplate of noted London physician, Herbert Watney, as well as the bookplate of one Henry Fernie, to the front pastedown of each volume. In half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines, joints, and extremities, resulting in some loss to the leather at the to the heads of the spines. Bumping to the extremities, resulting in some loss to the paper on the boards. Some wear to the spine labels, spine label to Volume V is lacking, partial loss to spine labels on Volumes III, VI, IX, and X. Previous owners' bookplates to the front pastedown of each volume.
