Henley is best known for his 1875 poem, 'Invictus', and according to Robert Louis Stevenson's letters, Henley was the inspiration behind Long John Silver. Previous owner's ink inscription dated 1902 to the front free endpaper. In the publisher's full cloth binding with gilt detail. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges and fading to the spine. Bumping to the spine and some small ink marks to the rear board. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Offsetting to the free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound.
