The tragedy of a failing book seller during the War. Darling is best known for his role as the Unionist MP for Edinburgh South between 1945 and 1957. He served in World War I and his fiction work is likely inspired by these experiences. No dust wrapper present. In the original publisher's cloth binding. No dust wrapper present. Externally, smart. There is bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. This has resulted in some wear to the cloth particularly to the tail of the spine where there is some slight loss. The title label to the spine is slightly faded as is the spine itself. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown. The front hinge is starting. Internally, firmly bound.
