Each place comes with a description of the local area and the author's experiences there, and some very attractive engravings of scenes by the river. This is the first trade edition. A further limited edition was published with proof plates albeit in a less attractive binding. 2 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with a little wear to the extremities, joints, and head and tail of the spine. Minor bumping to the boards. Otherwise, colour is good and gilt is bright.
