The Dobu Island is part of D'Entrecasteaux Islands in Papua New Guinea, and is occupied by small villages and groups. Written by Reo Franklin Fortune, a New Zealand-born social anthropologist, and including an introduction by Bronislaw Malinowski, Professor of Anthropology at the University of London. Fortune depicts the Dobu Islanders as a paranoid group of people, who engage heavily with Black Magic and alternative spiritual beliefs. He also ascertained they had unusual attitudes towards violence and sex. The first edition of this work.Illustrated with eight full page plates, six in-text illustrations, and a folding map. Collated and complete.Enclosed in the original dust wrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with some shelf wear and fading to the cloth at the joints. A few marks to the boards and light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Original unclipped dust wrapper is very smart, with some light edgewear and darkening to the back strip. A few ink marks to the rear of the wrap. Internally, frontispiece is lifting slightly at the head, remaining binding is firm. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Not Stated.
