W. Ferguson - The Bishop of Oxford and the Parish of Piddington; or, the People&Apos;S Legal and Scriptural Right to Choose Their Own Ministers.

Title: The Bishop of Oxford and the Parish of Piddington; or, the People&Apos;S Legal and Scriptural Right to Choose Their Own Ministers.
Description: London, B. L. Green, 1853. Cloth. A very scarce work on the legal rights of the parishioners of Piddington to elect their own vicar. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bookplate to the front paste down. In this work, Ferguson entreats the Lord of Piddington, Oxfordshire, to remember that the parishioners have the legal and scriptural right to elect their own minister, and how important it is that this right is not curtailed by him. In 1428 Piddington was granted full parochial status with a vicar; however, because Piddington's St Nicholas Church depended on the mother church in Ambrosden, the parishioners had to pay twenty shillings in money and one quarter of wheat annually to the vicar of Ambrosden. After a series of disputes between the vicar of Ambrosden and the villagers of Piddington, St Nicholas became a parish church with its own rights. This meant that the Piddington parishioners secured the right to elect their own minister. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart. Internally, firmly bound. Offsetting to the free end papers. Pages are generally clean, except for some light soiling to the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
