Information has been largely collected from the Ethnographical Survey of the Province and the Census, Settlement, and Administrative Reports, Sir W. W. Hunter's Imperial Gazetteer. William Crooke (1848-1923) was a British orientalist and a key figure in the study and documentation of Anglo-Indian folklore. While he worked as an administrator for the Indian Civil Service, he found abundant material for his research into the ancient civilizations of the country. 39 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with minor wear to the head and tail of the spine, the front joint, and the upper extremities. Small stains to both boards.
