This copy is accompanied by 'Illustrations of British Flora', a series of wood engravings of British plants by W. H. Fitch. This copy is the fifth edition from 1939. This is the illustrated companion to Bentham's Handbook of The British Flora by the same publisher also in original publisher's binding, with illustrations by W. H. Fitch. George Bentham was an English botanist and was president of the Linnaean Society in 1861.The handbook makes references to the illustrated book frequently, which includes 1315 monochrome illustrations. Includes adverts to the verso of the title page of the handbook and to the rear endpapers in illustrated book.Ink inscription from previous owner on the pastedowns from 1940.No dust wrappers present. In publisher's original cloth bindings. No dust wrappers present. Externally, very smart. There is minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines. Some minor marks to the boards. Rear board of 'illustrations' is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Ink inscription from 1940 to the front pastedowns from same previous owner.
