Draper was one of many curious Brits who spent time in Egypt after British occupation in 1882. The late seventeenth century was a time of mass colonial expansion, particularly on the African continent. This scarce book is a historical example of ecological colonialism.   Walter Draper was a fellow of the Royal Horticultural Society and Director of Government Gardens at the Barrage near Cairo.   Includes several horticultural adverts to the rear endpapers as well as a publisher's list of practical handbooks. In original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Minor bumps to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Some minor shelf wear to the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
