Queen Victoria refused to meet Baker, due to the way in which he met his wife; he had bought his wife, Florence, as a slave after they had fallen in love.Bookplate to the front paste down. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards. Spine is a little discoloured. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound.
