An election petition was lodged when the Conservative MP, George Henry Williamson, was elected, and corrupt practices were reported. The election was declared void, followed by an investigation by the newly formed Commission. This report was published in December, having been presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of his Majesty, with the conclusion that there had been 'extensive corruption&apos. However, political conflict over the MP seat continued until 1908, and the seat was left empty without an MP for two years. Contents include information provided from hundred of local witnesses, as well as an alphabetical reference list, with scripts of each witness's testimony. Publisher's adverts to the reverse of front and rear wraps.Collated, complete.
