Later in life however he turned to moral and philosophical epistles, in which he put Louis XIV on a pedestal. Edited by Claude Brossette, a fellow French writer and lawyer who was a correspondent of Boileau from 1699 to 1710. Rebacked in a half morocco binding with calf to the boards. Externally, with some rubbing and loss of leather to the boards, extremities, and spines. A little bumping to the extremities. Hinges are starting a little but remain firm. Institutional label to the front paste downs. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front free endpaper of Volume II. Front free endpaper of Volume I is a little worn. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned and generally clean with the occasional spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title page of Volume I. The occasional ink annotation to the margins of each volume. Title page of Volume I is a little edge worn. Good .
