William Allingham (1824-1889) was an Irish poet and diarist, better known for his poem 'The Faeries&apos. His diary is appreciated widely for his account of meetings with prominent authors and artists of the time, including Tennyson and Carlyle as well as the Pre Raphaelites. The first edition, published posthumously in 1907, edited by his wife Helen Allingham, well-known watercolourist and illustrator, and D. Radford. With frontispiece portrait of the author and other plates of illustrations, some in colour. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, spine and boards only lightly bumped to extremities, light soiling to boards and spine. Previous owner's ink gift inscription to half title, dated 1909.
