Evans visited Havana in 1933 to help take photographs for Carleton Beals' 'The Crime of Cuba', and extended his two-week with help with his friend Ernest Hemingway. These photographs chronicle Havana streetlife, policemen, beggars, and prostitutes, as well as other waterfront scenes. Evans feared that some of the photographs might be confiscated by Cuban authorities, so he left forty-six of the prints with Hemingway for safekeeping. Walker Evans (1903-1975) was an American photographer and photojournalist who is best known for his work for the Farm Security Administration during the Great Depression. These photos were selected with help from Gilles Mora, a French photography historian, and John T. Hill, an American artist and executor of Walker Evans. Essay on Walker Evans at beginning of text written by Gilles Mora. Collated, complete.  in the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper.
