This fascinating work of hunting and natural history by journalist and novelist James Greenwood discusses the history, habits and physiology of a number of species of big game, including tigers, elephants, hippos and leopards. The work also offers information regarding the methods of their hunting including weaponry and tactical movements.The second edition of this work, the first having been published in 1862. Containing a chromolithograph frontispiece in colour, eight engraved portraits, six folding maps, and numerous  in-text woodcut engravings. Taken from designs by Harden Melville and William Harvey. Collated and complete.  In contemporary half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, shelf wear to the boards and rubbing to the spine and extremities. Head of the spine is partially detached, and may detach with further excessive handling. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine. Internally, front hinge is strained at the title page. Rear hinge is tender. A few small stains to the fore-edge, affecting a few pages, and a few spots and handling marks to the pages, not affecting readability. Good Only . Ill.: Not Stated. Good Only .
