A very smart fourth edition of Anthony Hope"s charming novel, "Mr Witt"s Widow". Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins, better known as Anthony Hope, was a British novelist and playwright. He is best known for his books "The Prisoner of Zenda" (1894) and its sequel "Rupert of Hentzau" (1898)". These works, set in the fictional country of "Ruritania", gave rise to the genre known as Ruritanian romance, stories set in a fictional European country. Containing six pages of publisher"s advertisements to the rear. Inscriptions from previous owners on recto of front endpaper. In the original publisher"s decorative cloth binding, with gilt title to the spine. Externally, very smart. Some minor edgewear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Very minor marking to the boards. Rear joint beginning to fray lightly. Hinges are starting but firm. Recto of front endpaper signed by previous owners. Previous booksellers stamp to bottom left of rear pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Some age-toning and spotting to pastedowns and endpapers. Otherwise pages are bright and clean.
