Issue points present: 'Bradbury & Evans' to the title page; the vignette title shows the hook on Captain Cuttle's left arm rather than his right; 'delight' rather than 'joy' to page 284 5 lines up from the bottom; no apostrophe in 'aint' on page 14 10 lines up from the bottom; and 'fidgetty' for 'fidgety' on page 26 on line 11; 'Capatin' for 'Captain' as the final word on page 324. Issue points as stated by John C. Eckel in his 1913 publication 'The First Editions of the Writings of Charles Dickens&apos.Bound from the parts with puncture marks to the gutter.Illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title page, and thirty-eight plates. Collated, all plates are present. Bound without the half-title, list of plates and errata. Plate 35, 'On the Dark Road' facing page 547, is the first published example of a 'dark plate&apos."Dombey and Son" is about Paul Dombey, the owner of a shipping company, who intends to pass down ownership of his company to his son, ignoring his daughter, Florence. The novel tells the story of their family, and their hopes and fearsDickens is one of the most popular authors of the Victorian age. His novels show the grimy side of poverty and prosperity in Victorian England, showing poor social conditions alongside repulsive characters.Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, most often known by his pen-name 'Phiz&apos. As Phiz, he illustrated many of Dickens' novels, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', and 'Bleak House', as well as illustrating for 'Punch' throughout his life.Bookplate of Frances Anne Kendrick to the front paste down. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, with some rubbing to the boards and joints, and a little to the spine. Light surface cracks to the spine. Crack to the tail of the front joint. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Tape to the front paste down and recto to the front endpaper. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned with some foxing, mostly to the plates. Small tidemarks to a few of the plates. Bound without the half-title, list of plates and errata. Gathering from the front free endpaper to page 2. Good Only . Ill.: Phiz; Hablot Knight Browne. Good Only .
