A interesting volume illustrative of the movement and development of English literature in modern days, from the days of Chaucer in the fourteenth century, through to the age of Anne, Wordsworth, concluding with the age of Tennyson in the late nineteenth century. In an extremely charming full calf prize binding awarded from Woodhouse Grove School to J. A. Hartley fifth form in 1909.  In a full calf school prize binding with five raised bands, gilt school blink stamp to the front board, gilt embossing to the spine, edges in gilt, new marbled endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, light sunning to the spine. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown, dated 1909. J A Hartley's stamp to the front blank leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Few spots affecting particularly the first and last few leaves, scattered to the occasional margin. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine .
