Bleak House is one of Charles Dickens' most popular novels, with a vastly complicated plot and an immense cast of characters revolving around the long-running case of Jarndyce vs Jarndyce in the Court of Chancery. This novel helped support a reform movement in the judiciary system that led to the enactment of legal reform in the 1870. With a frontispiece and additional vignette title page, as well as twenty plates, with only the frontispiece being a dark plate. Collated, complete as called for for the first thirty-two chapters.Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, also known by his pen name "Phiz", English illustrator who illustrated ten of Charles Dickens' books, including 'David Copperfield', and 'Dombey and Son&apos. Rebound in half calf binding over marbled boards, with spine title on black calf. Externally sound with some shelf wear and minor rubbing to the boards, chipped to the extremities of the boards. With Library bookplate to the front pastedown. Previous ownership inscription to the front free endpaper, undated. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered throughout. Occasional ownership inscriptions to the back of the occasional plate. With a frontispiece and additional vignette title page, as well as twenty plates, with only the frontispiece being a dark plate.
