Imbert de Saint-Amand was a French diplomat and historian, prolific author of publications on the women of the court of Louis XIV, Louis XV, as well as Marie-Antoinette, Marie Louise, Empress Josephine, and others. The present volume is a second edition of this work, held institutionally by three library only, dated from Copac. A very scarce copy. The book tells of the happy days Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma, second wife of Napoleon and thus Empress of the French and Queen of Italy. Imbert follows the Empress' early years of marriage, entrance into Paris, honeymoon, and household until her years in Prague with her family, including an account of her life in 1812, when Napoleon was at the height of his power.  Illustrated with a frontispiece. Translated from the French by Thomas Sergeant Perry. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, minor bumping tot he head and tail of the spine and extremities, some darkening to the spine. Grace Sherson bookplate to the front pastedown.
