Barber's most popular work, it became a popular classic, and was reprinted various times within the first ten years. The present copy is an early printing of the illustrated edition. Featuring a frontispiece and other full page plates. In a lovely full pebbled calf binding signed J. & E. Bumpus. Complete with half title. In a full pebbled calf binding signed J. & E. Bumpus, with five raised bands and new endpapers, gilt to the edges. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, light rubbing to the spine and extremities, a touch of sunning to the spine. Emmeline Mary Bevan bookplate to the front pastedown, inscribed "E.M.B. from M.C.S." to the front free endpaper, dated 1914. Internally, firmly bound.
