Chapters look at explorations such as that of James Bruce in Abyssinia, Mungo Park and Clapperton in Western Africa, and Livingstone and Stanley's journeys among others. With illustrations in black and white, as well as a double page coloured map, one plate in colour. School prize inscription to the recto of the coloured map, dated 1884. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally generally sound with minor shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, light soiling to the boards and spine.
