A fascinating facsimile edition of this late fifteenth-century work on the interests of a gentlemen, including hunting, hawking, and heraldry. Written by Dame Juliana Berners a fourteenth and fifteenth-century expert on heraldry, hawking, and hunting. She was allegedly the prioress of the Priory of St. Mary of Sopwell, near St. Albans. Originally printed in Saint Albans by the Schoolmaster-Printer in 1486. Only three perfect copies of the first edition of this work are known to exist, this facsimile edition, originally published in 1881, being one of them. Containing a lengthy and informative introduction by William Blades, which includes information on the authorship, typography, bibliography, and philology. This copy has been rebound in paper-covered boards and enclosed in a buckram covered case. It includes the original front of the paper wrap adhered to the front free-endpaper.  Rebound in paper-covered boards and enclosed in a contemporary buckram covered case, with the original front of the paper wrap adhered to the front free-endpaper. Externally, a few spots to the boards and some loss to the head and tail of the spine. Buckram case is smart, with just minor shelf wear and a few marks to the interior.
