This was written during an uprising popularity of the sport in England, prior to there being a governing body of the game, which was eventually formed in 1885.Illustrated with a folding frontispiece, ninety-three plates, and three additional plates, 'Instructions for Building a Billiard Room', 'Thurston's Improved Gas Branch for Billiard Tables', and an advertisement 'John Thurston, Billiard Table Manufacturer&apos.The frontispiece depicts the interior of a billiard room.Collated, complete.Two pages of adverts to the rear. Rebacked in a quarter calf binding with the original cloth restored to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light marks and rubbing to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine is a little discoloured. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spotting. Folding frontispiece is cloth backed, repairing a small closed tear.
