A scarce edition of this work written by Jean Ingelow, which has been called an 'early feminist fairy tale', intended for young readers. Including the scarce original dust wrapper. Presenting this charming fairy tale by noted English writer Jean Ingelow. Much like the stories of other Victorian writers Lewis Carroll and George MacDonald, this work departs from the typical fairy tale tropes and traditions in order to convey more contemporary ideals. This work has been called an 'early feminist fairy tale', because the characters exude female power in the face of more traditional fairy tale conventions. Originally published in 1869 and written by English children's author Jean Ingelow (1820-1897). The fifth edition of this work, published by Wells, Gardner, Darton, & Co. a scarce edition. Containing eight full page illustrated plates, collated and complete. Also containing a prize bookplate to the front pastedown from P.M.C.
