Title: The Tragedy of the Italia with the Rescuers to the Red Tent
Description: London, Ernest Benn LTD, 1928. First edition. Cloth. An uncommon copy of the first edition of this account of the devastating Polar expedition of the Italia by Davide Giudici. The Italia was a polar airship set to take off for polar flight during 1927-8, designed and piloted by Umberto Nobile to go on an expedition under Italian control, led by Nobile. Although the airship managed to reach the Pole, its journey back involved its crashing onto a pack of ice, resulting in the death of ten crew-men, while the other six members remained trapped. The expedition provoked an international rescue effort. The first edition of this work, an uncommon copy. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, a faint minor damp marking to the front board.
