A vanishingly scarce work.ESTC citation number T40762.Half-title is present.The fabricated speech purported to be the final, genuine dying speech of Thomas Cappock.Cappock was a Jacobite from Manchester who took holy orders and joined the army of Prince Charles Edward, being left behind at Carlisle. He was tried and condemned for high treason and subsequently drawn, hung, and quartered on the 18th October 1746. Some thought that the Pretender nominated Cappock to be the see of Carlisle, and contemporary sources, such as this one, name him as the 'titular bishop of Carlisle&apos.Mispaginated, however all leaves are present. In a full panelled calf binding. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and clean with some spots. Faint tide mark to the edge. Small puncture marks to the gutter. Page 17/18 is working loose. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
