A perceptive look into eighteenth-century hunting practices. Written by Dorset-based landowner and hunting enthusiast, Sir Peter Beckford (1740-1811). He was a British landowner, hunstman, writer and patron. He wrote several works on his thoughts of hunting. Containing a beautiful illustrated frontispiece and two plates to the rear depicting a hunting lodge, as called for.This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII.ESTC Citation No. T93430 Handsomely rebound in speckled calf with vellum to the corners and marbled boards. Externally, very smart, with some minor shelf wear only. Internally, hinges are strained but firm. Evidence of prior tape repairs to the pastedowns and free-endpapers.
