On the western coast of the Labrador peninsula, rise the black mountains of Torngat; upon a summit, one could find the entrance to a deep cavern, once thought to be residence of Torngak, the spirit of evil. Rev. Davey aims at depicting the domain of this evil influence in the heart and life of the Eskimo, with much information drawn from the Moravian missions in Labrador, which focused on religious, social, and economic activities for the Inuit, who gradually went to settle near the communities. Moravians had a great impact on the life and culture of Labrador Inuit. Illustrated with a map and twenty full page plates. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth biding. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The cloth to the spine has only slightly faded, with a library number shelf inscribed to the spine. With faint minor marking to the boards. Ex-library bookplate to the front pastedown, with previous ownership stamp tot he front free endpaper, and a minor library inscription to the verso of the title page.
