A majority of his work includes the biographies of members and connections of his family, and descriptive and historical accounts of various countries and cities.This extensive work tells of the author's life from a personal perspective, with particular focus on his childhood, his time in Oxford and abroad, and his home life and relationship with his mother. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume and illustrations in text throughout, as well as thirty full page plates. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with some shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, minor chipping to the head of the spine of vol. II and minor marking to the odd volume. Minor cockling to the spine of vol. IV and VI. Internally, firmly bound. With a light minor foxing affecting the first and last few leaves particularly, otherwise the pages are generally very clean throughout.
