A very smart, first edition copy of this collection of caricatures and drawings of famous artists, writers, and poets by Max Beerbohm. Drawn by parodist Max Beerbohm, an nineteenth and twentieth-century English essayist, caricaturist, and humourist. This work is often referred to as one of his masterpieces. It is a collection of twenty-three caricatures depicting humorous imaginings of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and his fellow Pre-Raphaelites. Also depicted in this collection are fellow creatives John Ruskin, Robert Browning, Lord Byron, Ford Madox Ford, and more. Two previous owners' bookplates can be found on the front pastedown. One states 'Physhe' and the other is presumed to be from the peerage of the Baron Monteagle of Brandon. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt lettering and design. Externally, smart, with some light shelf wear and a few marks to the rear board. Spine is slightly faded and there is slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Two previous owners' bookplates to the front pastedown and a previous bookseller's plate to the rear pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Slight offsetting to the front and rear free-endpapers. Light spotting to the first few pages, but otherwise pages are clean. Very Good . Ill.: Max Beerbohm. Very Good .
