Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, 'I Lambert, 1778&apos. Illustrated, with an engraved title page to each volume and a frontispiece to every play. A complete list of the plays to these three volumes is as follows: 'The Suspicious Husband' by Dr Hoadly, 'Love for Love a Comedy' by Mr Congreve, 'The Double Dealer a Comedy' by Mr Congreve, 'Rule A Wife and Have a Wife a Comedy' by Beaumont and Fletcher to volume I.  To volume II is 'The Conscious Lovers' by Richard Steele, 'The Recruiting Officer a Comedy' by Mr Farquhar, 'The Beaux Stratagem a Comedy' by Mr Farquhar, 'The Country Wife a Comedy by David Garrick. To the third volume is 'A Bold Stroke for a Wife' by Mrs Centlivre, 'The Drummer or the Haunted House a Comedy' by Mr Addison, 'The Minor A Comedy' by Samuel Foote Esq, 'The Provok'd Husband; Or A Journey to London' by Sir John Vanbrugh and Mr Cibber. In uniform full tree calf bindings. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the spines and to the joints. Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper of all volumes 'I Lambert 1778&apos. Small loss to the head of volume I and III. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright.
