A very scarce pamphlet, rarely found on the market, containing the speech given to the House of Lords of Ireland by John FitzGibbon, Earl of Clare, on Monday February 19, 1798. The first edition ESTC T88743 with pagination starting e1 to the verso. Francis Rowdon, Earl of Moira, was a liberal Irish politician; in 1798, on the eve-of-the-Rebellion speech in the Irish House of Lords, he appealed for parliamentary reform, the emancipation of Catholics, and denounced the government's policy of coercion and the cruelties the people were being subjected to, including tortures, by Crown forces as they sought to break-up and disarm the Society of United Irishmen.This pamphlet contains the speech responding to the motions made by the Earl of Moira. Disbound. Externally very smart with some minor faint spotting and some age toning to the title page ad last leaf, as well as some soiling and minor handling marks to the last leaf. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are generally very clean throughout with the occasional minor soiling and spotting to the odd leaf, and a touch of age toning, as usual. Very Good . Ill.: None.
