Henry Kett - Elements of General Knowledge Introductory to Useful Books in the Principal Branches of Literature and Science

Title: Elements of General Knowledge Introductory to Useful Books in the Principal Branches of Literature and Science
Description: London, Rivington , 1809. Leather. A seventh edition set of Henry Kett's work on general knowledge, a scarce set. Compete in two volumes. This work was written and compiled by Henry Kett, a versatile English clergyman, academic and writer. It was based on a course of lectures which he had read to his pupils during the previous twelve years. The appendix of fifty-two pages contained a list of books, in the classical part of which Richard Porson was consulted. Both volumes of this set contain the bookplate of the previous owner, Robert Berkeley Esq. to the front pastedowns. Robert Berkeley was an English political writer, who is assumed also to be a significant activist for Catholic emancipation of the 1770s. This set came from Robert Berkeley's home, Spetchley Park, in Worcester, England. Bound in half calf with marble covered boards. Externally, smart. Shelf wear and rubbing present to the extremities and spine. Front and rear joints on both volumes are starting but still remain firm. Previous owner's bookplates to the front pastedowns of both volumes. Internally, generally firmly bound, with binding slightly tender to the title pages of both volumes. Internally, foxed to the first and last few pages of both volumes, with a few scattered spots throughout other pages. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
