The book was banned by Louis XIV in 1660. It was first translated into English in 1657.Written by Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), the French writer, philosopher, mathematician and theologian. Lacking the frontispiece illustration.Bound by Webb & Hunt of Liverpool. An early English translation of this influential work. In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some rubbing to the extremities and a little wear to the boards. Front joint is starting a touch. Internally, front joint is strained but firm.
