A general dictionary of French cuisine compiled by a collective of authors. This is the first edition of 1839, with a dedication to the author of 'Memoirs de la Marquise de Créquy.' The original French edition. With information on where to find the necessary requirements for the preparation of nutritional foods for both adults and children alike. Enriched with several French menus, culinary prescriptions, and other unpublished pamphlets by M. de la Reyniére. Including recipes for the sick. This volume is in need of a sympathetic rebinding. Embellished by a previous owner, who pasted some charming plates to the front and rear pastedown. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally sound with some shelf wear and chipping, a minor soiling to the boards and some damage to the spine, which is also slightly cockled due to the back strip being previously laid down. The spine has suffered a minor loss to the tail. The front board is coming loose, and may detach with further handling. With two charming plates pasted to the front and rear pastedowns by a previous owner. Internally, firmly bound. With a faint minor scattered spotting affecting the leaves throughout.
