This set is bound in a prize binding by Bickers & Son London. There is a prize bookplate in the front pastedown: 'Junior. University of Cambridge Local Examinations. London Main Centre. December 1879. W. J. Alexander. 3rd Class. Distinguished in English, Latin, & French. Presented for the Committee by The Bishop of Durham. 2 June 1880.' Alexander Baillie Cochrane was a Baron of Lamington and a British conservative in the mid to late 19th century. This written work by him is a historic work concerning Spain and royal alliances. Handsomely bound in Bickers & Son navy blue full calf binding. Externally, some slight rubbing and and minor shelf wear only, particularly to the bottom of spine of volume two. Prize bookplate on front pastedown of volume one. Internally, firmly bound. A few scattered spots, especially to the first and last few pages of both volumes, but otherwise pages are clean.
