Near Fine/Good. 8.5" by 5". Olwyn Bowey. A charming, limited edition copy of Bryan Guinness's 'The Engagement, part of a limited printing of 1,000 copies. This copy is signed by the author, and contains a gift inscription. 'The Engagement' tells the story of Michael Newburg and Fritillary as they meet, fall in love, and become engaged to be married. Bryan Guinness comments on early 20th century English customs and behaviours concerning engagement and marriage, using Michael Newburg and Fritillary as examples. Bryan Guinness was the 2nd Baron Moyne and is a part of the Guinness brewing family. He was a lawyer, poet, and novelist in his own right. This book is part of a limited edition printing of 1,000 copies. Within those 1,000 copies, 350 of them were signed by the author, of which this copy is one. The book also has a signed gift inscription by the author to the front free-endpaper: 'For Peter & Marjorie&apos. It was inscribed in 1977. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards, with original glassine wrapper. Externally, very smart with minor shelf wear only. Glassine wrapper has chipping towards the top of the spine and a few marks. Internally, book is firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Near Fine . Ill.: Olwyn Bowey. Near Fine/Good.
