This work is split into two halves, the first covering the Italian Riviera, and the second covering the Apennines.Alice Comyns Carr (1850-1927) was a British costume designed associated with the Aesthetic dress movement, which preferred flowing, loose garments embellished with lace and embroidery. She was actress Ellen Terry's primary costume designer for over two decades, and created for her a costume which used iridescent beetle wings. She was also the author of works beside 'North Italian Folk', including 'Margaret Maliphant' and 'The Arm of the Lord&apos.Signed to the title page by the author, dated 1879.Illustrated by Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886), an illustrator and artist known for 'The House that Jack Built' and 'John Gilpin&apos.With the ownership inscription of Eleanor Norah Methuen (nee Hennessey), Lady Methuen, wife of the fourth Baron Methuen and artist (1886-1958). A charming work regarding beautiful Italy and its inhabitants. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with some wear to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, which have resulted in a chip to the head of the spine.
