The original true first edition was published in 1895. These reminiscences comprise of eighteen tales recounted through charming imageries and metaphors rooted in the Ancient Greece, featuring many characters from the Greek mythology; The adults are referred to as the 'Olympians.' The Prologue and six of the stories appeared previously in The National Observer. Celebrated for the writing style and for the world created by Grahame, in which the 'Olympians' have forgotten what it means to be young, and are in continuous warfare with the children. This was a theme that became very popular later on and was explored by other authors. Illustrated with nineteenth stunning full page coloured plates by R J Enraght-Moony. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's pictorial cloth binding. Externally excellent with only minor shelf wear and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The cloth to the spine has only slightly darkened. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are clean with some age toning, as usual.
