The first edition that was published with Austin Dobson's memoir, published in 1882. Containing sixty six fables by John Gay, originally written in a series of fifty one originally in 1727 for Prince William, later the duke of Cumberland. He added fifteen in a second part in 1738. Illustrated with a frontispiece. In a half calf binding with cloth covered boards and new marbled endpapers as well as new blank pages. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a slight rubbing to the front and rear joint. Inscribed by a previous owner to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Only minor spotting to the rear endpapers. The pages are bright and clean otherwise. Illustrated with a frontispiece. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
