He assisted Alexander Pope in his renowned translation of Homer's Odyssey.Thomas Tickell (1685-1740) was an English poet and man of letters; he was a friend of Joseph Addison. He translated the first book of the Iliad.Thomas Warton (1728-1790) was an English literary historian and poet, appointed Poet Laureate in 1785. He is best known for the poem 'The Pleasures of Melancholy', the son of poet Thomas Warton the Elder and brother of literary critic Joseph Warton.Illustrated with vignette engravings, as well as three full plates. Collated.Three volumes bound as one. Undated; dated from copies on Jisc. In a half calf binding. Externally very smart, with a little wear to the extremities and a few instances of loss to the leather of the spine. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
